Understanding hypnosis

What is hypnosis?

A natural state of attention that everyone knows in daily life — and which, when guided, becomes a tool in the service of care.

A natural state

A state of attention we all know

Hypnosis is a natural state of heightened attention that everyone can experience in daily life: when absorbed in a book, a film, a familiar journey or an activity that requires concentration.

In consultation, hypnosis allows this state to be used in a guided and safe way. It can help mobilise your own resources, gain perspective on certain difficulties and explore new ways of responding.

Contrary to common belief, hypnosis does not mean losing control, sleeping or being manipulated. You remain conscious, an active participant in the session, and free to stop the experience at any time.

How it unfolds

How does a session work?

The session begins with a conversation to understand your situation, your expectations and your context. The hypnotic support is then tailored to your pace, your needs and your goals.

Hypnosis may be offered on its own or integrated into broader medical support, depending on the situation.

Indications

In which situations?

Hypnosis can notably be used as a supportive tool for managing stress, pain, sleep, certain habits, mental preparation or during periods of change.

It does not replace necessary medical follow-up, treatment or specialist care. Where relevant, it complements your care pathway.

A personalised approach

At your pace, in a climate of trust

Everyone experiences hypnosis in their own way. It is not about “succeeding” in a session: what matters is building tailored support, in a setting of listening, trust and respect.
